Alan Walton (born 1936) is an American businessman and member of 20 Boards of Directors and presently is Chairman of Oxford Bioscience Corporation,[1] and two other boards. Walton was instrumental in the development and funding of the Human Genome Project. Through his association with Oxford Bioscience, Walton manages over $850 million in a portfolio that includes 80 companies.[1]

Walton's academic preparation includes a B.S. in Chemistry, a DSc. in biological chemistry and a PhD. in Physical chemistry, all from the University of Nottingham.[2]
Dr. Walton has served on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University, where he was Professor of Macromolecular Science, and Harvard University. He was also a member of President Jimmy Carter's Technology Transfer Committee from 1976-1981.[2] Walton is also an author have prepared over 120 scientific articles and 10 books.[1]
He founded University Genetics in 1981 [3]
Walton is well known for his adventure travel exploits. He is one of the first 100 people to pay for a trip into space through Virgin Galactic. He has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, and has sky dived at the North Pole.
